Periodontics is the specialty that studies the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions that affect the tissue that holds the dental organs (gums, periodontal ligament, radicular cementum and alveolar bone) and implants for maintaining oral health, as well as the functionality and esthetics of the teeth and adjacent tissue.
